Trinidad Gonzaga Tagata
April 14, 1934 - February 21, 2022
Age 87, of Waipahu passed away on February 21, 2022. Born in Surigao del Sur, Philippines and retired at Hickam AFB Commissary. Trinidad was preceded in death by her husband (Maximo), son (Marlito), parents and seven siblings. She is survived by son, Mansueto (Prescy) daughters, Marilou (Jessie), Maxilyn (Andrew) and six grandchildren Malori, Mia (Gelo), Meryl, Pamela, Drew and Cate. She was a loving friend, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and “Mama” (grandmother). Her life in the Philippines was spent raising her four children while managing the family business — coconut farm she inherited from her parents. Trinidad was also a devout Catholic and an active member of her community’s Catholic Women’s League (CWL) — a faith-based outreach group dedicated to organizing activities and raising funds for the school and community. In 1979, she started a new life in Hawaii with her husband and later their children joined them. She held various jobs that included sewing Aloha shirts, stringing leis, making sushi, housekeeping, and working at the Hickman AFB Commissary where she eventually retired after a lifetime of hard work. In her retirement, Trinidad continued her dedication to her Catholic faith by regularly attending mass at St. Joseph’s. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, and sewing clothes for her children/grandchildren. She enjoyed her caring for her grandchildren who kept her home and life busy — especially on weekends and holidays. She also loved traveling frequently to her hometown. She never forgot her humble beginnings and always remembered to give back what she could to her family in the Philippines. She was proud of her four children but her six grandchildren are her greatest joy. Trinidad lived a full life as a devoted mother and a pillar of strength to her family. She will be missed and will always be loved dearly by her family. Rest In Peace, Mama.
