Bernice was my sister-in-law. The first time I met Bernice was when her father past away . I married her little sister Aileen, and this was my first time meeting the family. As soon as I walked through the door, her and the rest of the family made me feel at home, I remember her and her sisters all gathering in the kitchen fixing a meal and laughing about me for I had never eaten the kind of food they were preparing. I have so many fond memories of her and the rest of the family, I just can't seem to put into words about how I feel. One thing for sure I will never forget her loving kindness. She is now with her husband Taki and her mother and father and younger sister my wife Aileen.

Thank you Aunty Bernice for always showing your love and care for everyone. You even often asked how my parents were doing and always wishing them well too. You shall be surely missed.
Last summer, my family and I went to Hawaii to visit Kurt and Aunty Bernice. We went to Kim Chee II in Kaimuki. I'm so glad that Aunty was able to join us. We talked, reminisced about old times, and enjoyed our Korean food. After lunch, we went across the street to eat malasadas--Aunty's favorite! It was wonderful to see Aunty laughing and have a great time. I'm so glad I have those memories of Aunty.
We will miss your kindness, compassion, understanding, and sense of humor. You are now with Uncle Take once again, free of pain, and enjoying love from everyone in heaven.

On behalf of the Okuhara family, may I offer our deepest andmost loving condolences. Going to high school with Kurt, I knew her as "Mrs. Kimura". As the years went by, she became "Mom" and "Grandma Kimura" to my kids. Mom was so incredibly sweet and kind, even when we were in high school and kinda rascally. She used to let me steal Kurt's cigarettes because she knew I loved menthols. What a mom!!
Years later, when the kids and I would pop over for a visit, she always busied herself getting snacks and drinks, even though her knees were aching from her long years of working as a nurse. During our talks, she always knew to say and how to encourage. She could nail my challenges as a new wife and as a mother. She knew what I was going through and showed me how to take joy in the small things. She was also very grateful for the many years of my friendship with her son. Of course, the blessing is all mine.
Mom, we hope you are dancing with new knees in heaven. Until we see each other again, you have our love and fond remembrance.
