Today is April 8th,2017 a Saturday. As I was dusting,I came to the picture on the wall of a framed print my husband and I had bought years ago of one of Gary's paintings.It is over 20 years old now and the colors had turned a light blue. My husband will have passed 6 years ago this coming April 22; As I dusted it, my thoughts went back to when we both saw this painting and fell in love with its beauty and the artist who painted it. 7 years ago I met Gary at the Ala Moana shopping center where his paintings and prints were being displayed , and I told him about how my husband and I had bought that first framed print as an anniversary gift to each other. He was very sweet and liked that his painting helped make a memory for us. Well, a half hour ago, I decided to go on line to order a large replacement print for the faded one , and in the process saw that Gary had passed on in 2015. I was so heart broken with that news; although I was born and raised on Oahu, I live in California now and didn't hear the sad news. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and everyone that loved him. His memory will live on in my heart and in my house where another one of his paintings hang. God bless you all. My family just learned of Mr. Reed's passing. My father Francis Ikeda helped fix his home in Waianae when problems arose with the people he hired. When I met him he was such a wonderful man. I remember being in awe of his home. He was very appreciative of my family helping him he gave my mother a few signed koa framed lithographs. Which my mom cherishes. Our family lost touch with him as life happened. But we have fond memories of him. I'm very sorry and my heart goes out to his loved ones.

Gary was not only an amazing artist that will bring joy to many around the world for years to come through his art, but if you had the pleasure to meet him you will never forget his kind ways and that big smile.

My dearest Gary,

I will never stop missing you and all the fun times we shared. Your life was a world wind of adventure and you never missed a beat! Your paintings will be cherished and will continue to bring beauty to people's life. I can't think of a time when you would call me and I wasn't excited to talk with you - we had some great chats and I will miss that so very much. Your family loves you and will keep your presence alive in future family gatherings and we will look back and smile on all the wonderful memories we had together. Please know how much you mean to me - to all of us who know you. And just know that I will always ~ remember.

Gary, my brother my friend. My heart is broken with your passing. Time will help heal the sadness I feel and then I can remember all the wonderful and fun times that we had. All the days growing up in Woodstock. I can still see you marching with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corp. Your beautiful paintings will keep your memory alive and we know that you are painting all the beautiful things you are seeing now.
