Acela Garcia's Obituary
Acela Edra Garcia, of Honolulu, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend. She passed away on July 25, 2024 at the age of 79, after bravely battling cancer.
She was born in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, immigrated to Hawaii in September 1967, and made Kalihi her home. Acela was an accomplished business woman, operating Ashley Adult Residential Care Home, Always of Hawaii Wear, and was a saleswoman with Valley of the Temples and various travel agencies.
Acela was devout leader, Eucharistic minister, and volunteer at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa and a pillar of the Filipino community. She was an active member of Sarrat International, Filipino Catholic Club, Sacred Heart Organization, San Nicolas Organization, Care Home Operators of Hawaii, Oahu Filipino Community Council, FilCom Center, Sarrat Association of Hawaii, and United Filipino Community Hawaii. She proudly served as the first Mrs. Hawaii Filipina in (1988), Filipina business women of the year (2001), and as Mrs. Maria Clara (1994-95). Her dedication, leadership, and comraderie will be missed.
Acela is survived by her loving husband, Samuel Garcia, Sr.; her four children, Antonio Garcia (Marissa), Shirley Tabalan (Dan), Samuel Garcia, Jr. (Teela), Allan Garcia (Katrina); her nephew, Benny Edra (Rebecca); and her ten grandchildren; Alyssa, Mariel, Noah, Dylan, Hunter, Lainey, Kayla, Landon, Nile & Arrow.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday August 13, 2024, at Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with funeral mass to begin at 11:00 a.m. There will be a burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
