Alan Edwards' Obituary
Alan Edwards, 76, of Ewa Beach, HI, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024. Born on June 4, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, Alan lived a life marked by dedication and service. He graduated from Glenville High School in June 1966 and was soon drafted into the U.S. Army. Alan proudly served for four years during the Vietnam Conflict, spending a significant part of his service stationed in Hawaii—a place that would become his home.
Following his military service, Alan pursued higher education at the University of Hawaii, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Sociology. He spent the next 40 years working for the Department of Defense at Schofield Army Base, a role through which he contributed significantly to his community.
Alan is survived by his devoted wife, Doris Edwards. He is also cherished by his three stepchildren: Danene Smith of Bethesda, MD, and Jonathan and Jason Elie of California. He was a loving grandfather to Koen, Maia, Nevan, and Livia, who brought immense joy to his life. In addition, Alan is survived by his nieces and nephew in Cleveland, Ohio: Rachel Chavis, Robin Chavis, and Anthony Chavis.
Alan is remembered fondly by a host of friends, coworkers, and family members whose lives he touched with his warmth, kindness, and steadfast commitment. His legacy of service and love will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Valley of the Temples Trousdale Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
