Albert Masato Hironaka's Obituary
Albert Masato Hironaka, 89, of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away on December 8, 2017. He was the second eldest of five children born to Kiichi and Shizuko Hironaka in Honolulu, on January 14, 1928.
He attended Waialae School and graduated from Kaimuki High School, Class of 1946, After graduation, he began his career as a carpenter.
He retired in 1985, after serving for many years as a finishing carpenter for Hick's Homes. After retirement, he got a job with the City & County as a maintenance worker and also did handyman jobs.
Albert lived in Honolulu all of his life, in Ainakoa Valley and Kaimuki.
He was married to Roberta Satsuki Hidano on August 17, 1951 at Makiki Christian Church. He was a part-time member of Waialae Baptist Church, but hardly went because he couldn't hear the sermon.
Albert's most important events in his life were: the day his only daughter was born, the day his first granddaughter was born and all those that followed.
He was a quiet, effective, very hard worker, frugal, lot of foresight and organized man who liked to and was a genius in building things. He also did all the renovations (three major ones), in and out, to their home over 20 years. He worked all the way into his 80's until his illness got in the way of life.
He liked to play music; piano, organ, accordion, banjo, guitar, and ukulele. He also enjoyed listening to the songs of Gabby Pahinui, Makaha Sons of Niihau, Palani Vaughn, olden days Hawaiian music and music from Japan.
Albert is survived by his loving children, Mark (Raquel) Hironaka, Derek (Marlene) Hironaka, Brad Hironaka, Robyn (Dr. Michael "Mike") Kurosawa; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Albert (along with wife, Roberta Satsuki Hironaka) will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Diamond Head Mortuary; with visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., celebration of life service to begin at 11:00 a.m. and inurnment service to follow 2:00 p.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park.
