Aloun Sou's Obituary
ALOUN SOU, 85 years old, passed away peacefully and comfortably at his home in Kapolei on July 25. Surrounding him were his wife, children and grandchildren.
Aloun was the youngest of 10 siblings, born in 1937 in Bangkok, Thailand where he grew up near the city produce terminal located in Chinatown. There, he started peddling produce and continued working throughout Southeast Asia logging timber, raising poultry and farming. While working in Vientiane, Laos, Aloun met his wife, Somphone. They were married and raised four children: Larn Yee Sou, Mimi Chang; Mike Sou; and Alec Sou.
After the Vietnam War ended, Aloun and his family traveled to the United States via a United Nation refugee camp on the Thailand border. The family ended up on Oahu in 1976, where Aloun started farming a 5 acres plot in the Waianae valley growing Asian and local vegetables. His prior experience in agriculture and hard-work ethic helped him build a strong foundation for Aloun Farms to grow into one of the largest, family farm businesses in Hawai’i long after the era of the sugar/pineapple plantations.
Aloun is survived with his loving wife, Somphone Sou; two daughters, Larn Yee Sou, Mimi Chang; two sons Mike Sou and Alec Sou and eight grandchildren ages 13 to 31.
Services in honor of Mr. ALOUN SOU will be on Sunday, August 13th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley of the Temple Main Chapel.
