Alvin W.K.Y. Awo's Obituary
Alvin “Cookie” Awo, age 88, of Waianae, passed away on January 26, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; children, Kelcie and David, and one grandchild, Chase. He was preceded in death by his parents Alexander Awo, Jr. and Elsie S.C. Kanana
Alvin was a graduate of St. Louis College ’53; the University of Montana and the University of Hawaii. In the early days he got a pilot license and delivered mail to the outer islands. He served in the Air National Guard and In 1958 he joined the Air Force, where he attended the U.S. Monterey Language School and upon completion he was stationed in Germany. He was fluent in German, Russian and Croation. Alvin loved to travel and was part owner of All Ways Travel in Honolulu and later opened Preferred Travel in Wahiawa. Throughout his life he traveled extensively. He was also an active Real Estate Broker. He worked with the community and the YMCA to bring the YMCA of Honolulu – Waianae Coast Branch to the Waianae Coast and he served several terms on the Waianae Neighborhood Board. After retirement he did substitute teaching and continued to be active in the community as an active member of the Waianae Coast VFW and the AARP.
Services Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Diamond Head Mortuary. Visitation 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Service 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., with internment at the National Cemetery of the Pacific, Wednesday, February 14, 1:00 p.m.
