Alvin Posadas Labra, lovingly known as Papa to his children and Daddylo to his
grandchildren, of Waimānalo passed away on November 10, 2025 at the age of 62
surrounded by his family. Born March 5, 1963, in Guadalupe, Cebu City Philippines, hewas the beloved son of Felix & Gloria Labra. Alvin’s life was defined by unwavering
faith, quiet strength, and a love for his family that guided him every step.
Alvin spent most of his life in the Philippines before moving to Waimānalo, Hawaiʻi in
2013 to support his eldest daughter, Marie, bringing with him his wife Emelita and
youngest daughter, Ember. Though far from home, he carried the warmth, humor, and generosity of Cebu with him, touching the hearts of everyone he met.
Alvin married the love of his life, Emelita “Emy” Labra, on October 8, 1981 in Cebu.
Together, they built a beautiful family and shared more than four decades of partnership filled with laughter, music, and dancing. He is survived by his loving wife Emelita and their six children: Marie Chandel Labra Lawrence, Marc Anthony Labra, Gloria Mae Labra, Juliet Mae Labra, Daisy Mae Labra, and Francoise Mae Labra Harter. He also is survived by nine beloved grandchildren, Marydel, Sean, Zuriel, Sophiel, Hayley, Isabella, Maessie, Koa and Ely, all of whom were blessed by his presence and care.
In the Philippines, Alvin worked for the Danao City Mayor’s Office as a Radio Operator and the Provincial Government of Cebu as a Liaison Officer. After moving to Hawaiʻi, he continued his dedicated public service with the City and County of Honolulu.
Alvin’s passions included playing tennis, walking along the beach, singing, dancing withhis wife, and spending long conversations with his family. One of the things he was passionate about was chicken fighting and proudly tending to his chickens back in Cebu, he loved cooking his favorite Filipino dishes such as Pochero, Balbacua and
Lechon Belly. Alvin enjoyed sharing stories about his adventures and his childhood to his family and friends. He enjoyed weekly mahjong games with neighbors to pass the time. His greatest joy came from his family, who was the center of his world.
A man of deep Catholic faith, he was a devoted member of Guadalupe Church and a
member of Oasis of Love in Cebu where he found community, comfort and strength.
Alvin lived with selflessness that inspired everyone around him. His sharp wit, dark
humor, and joyful spirit never dimmed despite his long battle with cancer. On his hardest days, when asked how he was doing, he would simply smile and say, “I’m always good.” He is loved by everybody. His courage, optimism, and resilience were nothing short of extraordinary. Even in his final moments, he still managed to crack some jokes. He was truly one of a kind.
Everything Alvin did was for his family. He sacrificed without hesitation to give his
children a better life, all while carrying himself with kindness, strength, and grace. His heart touched countless lives, and his legacy lives on in the love he poured into every person he knew. Alvin wants his life to be celebrated by everyone who knows him and cherish their fond memories together. His final song being “For the Good Times” by Perry Como will be remembered by his entire family as he sang the song before he passed.
Alvin “Papa” Labra will be remembered for his laughter, his faith, his bravery, resilience and the boundless love he offered so freely. His memory will forever remain a blessing to his family and to all whose lives he brightened.
