Alvin Sadanobu Narimatsu's Obituary
A loving husband, father, brother and friend, Alvin was born in Kona where he grew up on a dairy. He often helped his grandpa deliver fresh milk in bottles from the back of an old pickup truck in the early morning hours. This experience taught him the value of hard work, so at a young age, Alvin learned to set goals and work diligently to achieve them.
A graduate of Punahou School (’58) where he was named the first Asian captain of the football team, Alvin was known as “Shige” by his teammates. He went on to the University of Hawaii, where he became a member of Sigma Lambda Fraternity and earned a degree in business.
He enjoyed a career in travel at Western and Hawaiian Airlines and had opportunities to visit countries in Asia and Europe with his family. In midstream, he switched to the financial field, starting at E.F Hutton and culminating at Merrill Lynch. Alvin was devoted to achieving financial security for his clients and their families.
During his career in travel and finance, he served on several community boards, including the Hawaii Stadium Authority and the Friends of the Library of Hawaii Foundation.
To relax, he liked to golf and often traveled with his buddies to test his skills on immaculate Japanese golf courses.
Alvin is survived by wife Sharon, son Landon, brothers Galen (Nami Ann), Deems (Patsy), nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by parents Harold and Flora (Ujimori).
