Andrew Pao'okalani Kalaukoa Jr.'s Obituary
Celebrating the Life of Andrew Pao'okalani Kalaukoa Jr.
November 8th, 1949 – June 22nd, 2025
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Andrew Pao'okalani Kalaukoa Jr.—known to everyone simply as Uncle Pakalani—lived and passed in the same city of Nanakuli he always called home. His quiet presence anchored every family gathering, and his easy “Uncle” welcome made relatives and newcomers feel equally close.
A proud veteran, he began his service in 1970 and rose to the rank of E-3 at Fort Lewis in Washington. Friends often pointed to his military years as the start of his Hardworking, Generous, Humble, Kind, and Determined approach to life. No matter the task, he met it head-on with steady resolve.
After the Army, Uncle Pakalani built a life under the hood of countless cars as a trusted auto mechanic. Neighbors knew that if something rattled or smoked, his driveway light would be on until it was fixed. He never kept score; helping was simply part of who he was.
He is survived by his sons Solomon I. Kawai, Raylan K. Kawai, Andrew P. Kalaukoa Jr., Abraham I. Kalaukoa, Anthony K. Kalaukoa, his grandchildren Nigel Kawai, Guyson Kawai, Keola Kawai, Kiana Kawai, Javin Kawai, Jaistyn Kawai, Raven Caspino, Ashlyn-Rose Kawai, Alora-Mari Kawai, Kawaihinano Kalaukoa, Analu Kalaukoa, Branstin Isaacs, Constance Kalaukoa, Kaydence Kalaukoa, Zaddex Kalaukoa, Zysin Kalaukoa, as well as his great grandchildren, Kenzo Kawai, Remy-True Kawai, Greyson Kawai, Dakota Kawai,
Zhynais Kalaukoa-Ah Sam, Kawaile’a Kalaukoa.
The line most often repeated about him—“He would give the shirt off his back to someone who needed it”—was never just a saying. His steady kindness stitched friends and family together in ways words can’t fully capture.
We carry his spirit forward every time we lend a hand without being asked. Though our hearts feel the space he once filled, his example stays close, guiding us with the same warmth he shared so freely. Farewell for now, Uncle Pakalani—you remain with us in every act of simple, honest help.
