Antero "Ama" Acob Queja's Obituary
Antero “Ama” Acob Queja, 96, a resident of Pearl City, Oahu passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, June 9, 2016. He was the first of six children born to Santos Queja and Juanita Acob in Barangay 27 Duripes Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on January 2, 1920.
Antero attended Parang Elementary School in the Philippines.
He eventually made his way to Hawaii and made a life for him and his family. He was employed with the Waikiki Park Shore Hotel for 12 years as a dishwasher where he retired.
He was married to Petrona Magaoay in Barangay 27 Duripes Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
He belonged to the United Bacarreneos of Hawaii and he was also a long time parishner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Pearl City.
A quiet and observing man he loved gardening and truly enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. They gave him such joy in all things that they did. Antero also loved to cook Filipino food like Pinakbet, famous for his Dinaraan and other great Filipino dishes.
Listening to KNDI Radio was another thing Antero enjoyed. The music and information about the Philippines, and all other current events that would keep him up to date with everything.
Antero is survived by his sons, Amado (Juana) Queja and Domingo (Luciana) Queja; daughters, Demetria “Siping” Ramiscal and Celia (Richard) Garcia; sister, Amanda Soriano of Barangay 27 Duripes Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great, great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Petrona Magaoay Queja; son, Alfredo “Jun” Queja and son-in-law, Andres Ramiscal.
Services for Antero will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary (located at, 45-425 Kamehameha Highway Kaneohe, Hawaii 96744); visitation from 5:30 – 6:30; service to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Additional service, Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church (located at, 1525 Waimano Home Road Pearl City, Hawaii 96782); visitation from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m.; Mass to begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow 12:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
