I will miss my Uncle Arg who, over time, became a dear friend. He was much younger than his two sisters and his brother, close in age to his nieces and nephews back in Indiana where he was born and grew up. It was an unexpected gift to us to find that he still wanted to make that long trip from Hawaii to Indiana after his sisters and brother were gone. He did that long into his 90s.
Typical of Arg, he brought us together by planning dinners out and cooking creative lunches in. And there were always the reciprocal outings, the traditional Coney Island night. His visit was invariably a good time.
Arg was generous, good-humored, always positive. He was compassionate. He deeply appreciated the the ex-patient who might stop him in the mall or on the street to tell Doctor Bacon how well everything has gone since the surgery he’d received.
He was vigorous and energetic. He’d traveled much and loved the finer things of Europe and England, the art, the theatre, the history.
He was a good companion. We are thankful to have had him for a friend.
