Mr. Arthur "Keawe" Enos was my 5th Grade Homeroom Teacher at Hau'ula Elementary School. This was the Bicentennial birthday year of the USA, which was a rough time because Official instruction in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language) in schools was not permitted until 1987. However, the previous school year of 1975-1976 in 4th Grade, my teachers were Mrs. Ely Tepper, Mrs. Plunkett, and Mrs. Kamanu. Mrs. Tepper was in a hula halau, and also learned Hawaiian Culture for several years. She helped with the Kamehameha Schools Team of Aunty Bev and Aunty Della along with Kupuna from Laie including Aunty Emma Kahawai and Aunty Nona Beamer. That was the year also of Women's Freedom, in that Mrs. Tepper became Ms. Tepper, and Mrs. Marsha Prior, one of my K-1 Teachers became Ms. Prior. Mr. Keawe Enos had been a classmate of my parents at CCH (Church College of Hawaii, nka BYU Hawaii). He was a great man of intelligence, integrity, faith, honesty, and fairness. He also taught us lessons in history and current events such as the Olympic Athlete, Nadia Comaneci and how we students could achieve anything with practice and determination. He taught us the value of work ethics. and Mr. Enos was a great light in this world. We were all sad when he transferred to Laie Elementary School. Although it has been 12 years now since his passing, we send our love and Aloha to his Ohana that they are all loved and in our continuing thoughts and prayers.
