Barney MH Akuna, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and respected public servant, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the age of 100.
Born on November 29, 1925, to Aki and Ung Akuna, Barney lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community. He proudly served in the United States Navy, answering the call to serve during a pivotal time in our nation's history. Following his military service, Barney built a distinguished career in Hawaii as an Electrical Inspector, where he earned the respect of colleagues and community members through his professionalism, integrity, and strong work ethic.
Barney was a man of quiet strength, wisdom, and perseverance. He took great pride in his family and cherished the time spent with those he loved. His legacy lives on through the generations he helped shape and inspire.
He is survived by his sons, Barney Tim Akuna, Isaac Akuna, and Bert Akuna; his 10 grandchildren; and his 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to carry forward his values, memories, and enduring spirit.
Barney's century-long life was a testament to devotion, service, and love. He will be remembered for his kindness, steadfast character, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. May he rest in peace.
