This is what my Mom wrote to my son Brian Kaler when he was in the Boy Scouts in 1993.
"Dear Brian, I've been thinking about you everyday, and I hope this is a great experience for you.
Being a Boy Scout is one of the best ways to reach out and touch life, gain friends of value, and recognize our own wonderful self-esteem.
You are a super grandson and I love you so much.

Brian continued in scouting to become an Eagle Scout!
Mom, you were the greatest!!
I always thought of my cute Aunt as slightly Bohemian in her free spiritedness. She was so different from my Mom who always gently required loving and safety. Aunt Betty on the other hand had adventure in her soul, more so than many women raised in the 30's to 70's when the rest of the world finally caught up with HER. She had an easiness about her and a giggle in her heart. Mom and Betty were very close. Even with the distance between them they had each other to lean on for support. Betty was my 2nd Mom. I kept uneven contact with her but thought about her almost every day vowing to 'call tomorrow.' She used to ask me if she should come to Salt Lake to live with Mom because there was no way my Mom would ever go live on an island. I knew Betty struggled between she 'should', and living where she was, so I would say that she would not be happy living in cold winters. She always appreciated having a reason to not have to move to a strange city so different from where she had lived, California, Arizona and Hawaii her whole adult life. Even though I did not talk to her every day, just knowing she was 'somewhere' made me peaceful. I miss you already my sweet girl. Toss on a moomoo, slap on a hat and go dance in the sun with your cute guy. I Love You.
