Obituary for Byron Wai You Ho (1948-2025)
Byron Wai You Ho, of Waiahole, Hawaii, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the age of 77, at Wahiawa Queens Medical Hospital.
Byron was born to Walter and Elsie Ho on January 12, 1948, at Kapiolani Medical Center. He was the 4th born of 7 children. Byron graduated from Kailua High School in 1966 and joined the Air National Guard military reserves. He began his service as a weapons specialist and later moved on to radar communications and systems technology. Byron married his wife in 1969, and they went on to have 4 children.
Byron began his civil career in 1969 as a Cable Splicer for GTE Hawaiian Tel and retired after 30+ years. After retirement, he began a second career as a Safety Coordinator/Manager, working for Henkels & McCoy, FOPCO, and NAN, Inc. Byron spent countless hours ensuring safety was a top priority of countless jobsites and engrained in all workers. Byron taught numerous safety classes and was well-known across his industry.
In addition to being a hard worker, Byron enjoyed four-wheeling, bowling, throwing darts, playing basketball, listening to oldie but goodie music, and fishing for oama with his family. He loved his family very much, always making sure he was present and supportive for any and all family outings, holiday events, school performances, sports games, music concerts, etc.
Byron is survived by his wife, Mercedes; son, Byron (Cherie) Ho Jr.; daughters, Mary Chelsea (Ronald) Ho-Tsutsumi, Autumn-Frances (Benjamin) Barrett, and Ariel-Charlen (Jannaye) Ah Quin-Ho; grandchildren, Khrysten (Peter), Dominique (Alex), Caleb, Owen, Sophia, Ava, and Manaia; great grandchild, Noah; and brothers, Walter and Steven (Diane).
The memorial service for Byron will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, Main Chapel. Visitation begins at 10:00am, with service to follow. Please join the family and friends, as they celebrate and honor the life, heart, and soul of Byron W.Y. Ho.
