Caleb L. Lyons' Obituary
Caleb was a 22 year old young black man of Jamaican decent who graduated from Moanalua High School and attended the California College of the Arts in San Francisco & the University of Hawai’i at Manoa as an aspiring cinematographer. Caleb was also a musician and a taiko drummer who was a member of the SGI-USA Pacific Zone Taiko Group that won first place in the 2014 Taiko Group Championship at the Ikeda Youth Ensemble National Competition & second place in the 2012 IYE Competition. Caleb Logan Lyons was born July 3, 2000 as a Buddhist fortune child and practicing SGI-USA Nichiren Buddhist to Joy & Berrie Lyons whose parents are SGI-USA District leaders in Ala Ilima District and a younger brother to Theo Lyons (formerly known as Korah Lyons). Caleb was a Young Men’s Division District leader for Ala Ilima District & a member in Kamehameha District. He also was a Gajokai & Soka Group protecting our Buddhist members & castle for Kosen-Rufu (World Peace). Caleb enjoyed SGI activities & was always willing to volunteer or participate no matter what! Caleb worked at CVS Longs Drugs in Salt Lake Shopping Center, Moiliili, and Nimitz. Caleb never gave up even thru his pain & physical suffering he kept volunteering & participating in SGI activities.
Caleb has had to overcome many health problems such as Ricketts when he was younger & most recently diagnosed with an incurable, very rare neurological & autoimmune disease called Stiff Person Syndrome which is triggered by loud or sudden noises, vibrations or movement, or emotional distress and affects his entire body to have a seizure. Although his own body had caused him illness and his untimely death on August 20, 2022, Caleb was able to be an organ donor and we know that Caleb would have been proud to be able to help save several people’s lives by donating his organs and upholding his vow and Buddhist mission in life to help others until his last breath.🦁
Caleb enjoyed learning, gaming, music, taiko drumming, dry humor, lions, and cats. Being around him was like a giant warm comforting hug.💝
Caleb is survived by his mother Joy Lyons, father Berrie Lyons, sibling Theo Lyons (formerly known as Korah Lyons), paternal grandmother Paulette Cecchi, paternal grandfather Hugh Lyons, maternal grandfather Sylvester Street, paternal aunt Danielle Cecchi, several cousins, and best friend & Myoho sister Jennifer K. Yoshioka.
