LTC (ret) Carl Joseph Bobay's Obituary
LTC (ret) Carl Joseph Bobay, 91, passed away on August 21, 2024, in Waipahu. He was born in Hoagland, IN, the son of Lawrence J. and Armella G. (Herber) Bobay. He attended St. Mary Catholic School in Fort Wayne, IN, Brunnerdale High School in Canton, OH, and attended St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, IN.
He joined the US Army in early 1953 and completed basic training at Ft. Knox, KY. His first duty station was Korea.
He served two tours of Vietnam, his first from August 1965 to July 1966, and then from May 1971 to April 1972. As part of the First Battalion (Airborne) Twelfth Calvary Airmobile, he flew Medical Evacuation helicopters to transport wounded troops from the battlefield.
In 1980, after 27 years of service, he retired from his final duty station at Tripler Army Medical Center,
He was buried at Kaneohe State Veterans Cemetery with full honors. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Norbert, and is survived by his wife Thresa, daughters Clara and Caren, grandson Robby, brother Paul, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
