Libao, Carmelita's Obituary
Carmelita Reyes Libao (November 20, 1942 – June 10, 2025)
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Carmelita (“Lita”) Reyes Libao, cherished wife, mother, and grandmother.
Lita was born on November 20, 1942, in Camiling in the province of Tarlac, Philippines, to her father Juan Aquilino Reyes, and her mother, Consolation Sevilla Reyes. She was raised on acres of farmland and had a life-long love and appreciation for plants, flowers, and fruits of the land, and the hard work of her father. Although an only child, she said she never felt lonely because she was always surrounded by plenty of cousins, uncles, and aunts, to which she remained close to many until her last days.
Lita met the love of her life, Dr. Conceso M. Libao, while they were in college. She was a nursing student, and he was a medical student at Far Eastern University in Manila. Lita graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Class of 1963. Their love story began there and flourished across decades and across the globe. Lita moved from the Philippines to New York City shortly after Conny moved, and they married there. They began their family in New Jersey, and after tiring of the cold weather, they moved to Jacksonville, Florida where they raised their kids. After Florida, Lita and Conny moved to Tamuning, Guam. Lita supported Conny in his medical practice in Guam, and together they shared a love of travel, as well as fulfilled their calling to do medical missions and ministry in the Philippines and throughout Asia before retiring in beautiful Hawaii. Lita and Conny recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day this year, February 14, 2025.
Carmelita was known as a wonderful wife, loving mother, and cherished “Lola”, who dedicated her life to caring for others, both as a devoted nurse throughout her career, and moreover, as the loving heart of her family. Her compassionate spirit and healing touch brought comfort to countless patients and families during her years of service in the nursing profession, and to hundreds she touched through ministry and missions. She is survived by her husband, Conny, her children Jose and Kathleen, son-in-law Ranilo Laygo, and her adored grandsons, Brandon and Noah and Angelita (Helen Reyes).
Those who knew Carmelita will remember her as trusted confidant, an anointed prayer warrior, and someone blessed with the most positive and caring spirit that could brighten any room. She was known for her beauty, both inside and out, and her incredible cooking, especially her coveted homemade Brazos de Mercedes dessert that brought so much joy to its recipients.
Carmelita’s unwavering faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her life. Although we miss her intensely, we celebrate her wonderful life and good deeds. She leaves a legacy of love, faith and services that will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. And we
can only imagine that she is now rejoicing in heaven. We love you, Lita/Mom/Lola. We will cherish you forever. Aloha and a hui hou (until we meet again).
