Carolina Cortuna Pilayo's Obituary
Celebrating the life of Carolina Cortuna Pilayo.
Carolina was born January 25, 1921 in Hana, Maui, Hi to Alejo Torres Cortuna and Eugenia Andrin.
In 1942 she moved to Oahu where she married Christopher K Pilayo on February 21, 1942 in Honolulu. She retired from Dole Cannery; and continued her role as homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother to all.
Carolina was an avid golfer and belonged to the Hawaiian Girls Golf Club, Olomana Women’s golf club and also bowled with Pali Lanes Women’s Bowling League.
Among her most memorable events were her 50th wedding anniversary and her hole-in-one on the 11th hole at Olomana Golf Course.
Carolina was Loving, Humble, Perseverant, Caring and Intuitive.
She is survived by her children: Carolyn Garcia, Melvia (Christian) Zimmermann, Magdalena “Maggie” Bilermo, Christopher (Vika) Pilayo Jr., Beverly (Gary) Chaves and Gloria Gaines. Brother, Teotico A. Cortuna, 18 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be March 3 at 12-noon at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary with a viewing starting at 11am.
Burial will be at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery at 1 pm. Lunch to follow.
