Nothing in life prepares you when you lose a parent. I am thankful we got to spend the last few days at the hospital with her so she was not alone. My mom had endured a month in the hospital for pneumonia and tried several times to escape … the nurses all have stories. One nurse mentioned that when mom was in isolation for pneumonia she somehow climbed out of bed , put a blanket on as a cape and carried her food tray out of the room saying that she was going to wash the dishes. 😄
My mom worked hard all her life. Coming to Hawaii in 1979 with nothing and speaking no English …. yet she put food on the table, bought us a home, gave us braces we needed and all her kids graduated with master’s degrees. She scrimped and saved working as a housekeeper at a hotel for 20 years and did extra work by cleaning offices and homes on the weekends and evenings. Mom never complained. She just did it. Even after retirement, she was never idle … working on her garden daily planting vegetables and fruit, cleaning the house, cooking, etc. Rest now mom, rest now.
