Clifford Shigeo Funakura's Obituary
Clifford Shigeo Funakura, of Waimanalo, Hawaii passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Hawaii at the age of 78. He was the third of four children born to Katsumi Funakura and Mildred Okada on March 7, 1937 in Waimanalo, Hawaii. He was a marine machinist for the Pearl Harbor Shipyard and a United States Air Force Veteran.
Clifford attended Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School, soon after he attended and graduated from James B. Castle High School. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1959 after serving with the military he was employed with Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as a marine machinist where he retired after 31 years of service.
He resided in Waimanalo all of his life and was married to Pauline Young on September 25, 1971. They had two children which were his pride and joy.
Clifford enjoyed diving in Waimanalo for tako, traveling with his wife, Pauline, working in the yard and playing on the iPad. He could build, fix, rig, and construct anything. He loved his family above and beyond; he never wanted anything for himself and he truly was the hardest person to buy gifts for because he always insisted that he had everything he needed.
The words that our family can describe of Clifford are; strong, meticulous, handy, helpful, and humble beyond words. He will be truly missed for his kind, jokey presence; his ever helpful nature; and the incredible way he loved his family, especially his wife and kids.
