Daniel Kalani Akiu's Obituary
Daniel “Danny” Kalani Akiu, 56, of Kailua, Oahu, passed away on
April 12, 2017. Danny was born to Charleen Ida (Rosecrans) and Henry Baker Akiu Jr. in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 11, 1961; he was the oldest of four children.
Danny attended the following schools: Holy Family School, Kainalu Elementary School, Kalaheo Intermediate School, Kalaheo High School, Merced Junior College and Washington State University. After graduation, he began a career as a Long shoreman.
Danny married Wandamae on December 31, 1997 at Ho’omaluhia Gardens.
Danny retired as a crane operator for Matson Navigation in 2015; after serving for 27 years.
Danny resided in Kailua, Hawaii. He was also a member of the Hui Kaikunane, Kainalu Little League and the Windward Tigers.
Special people who have influenced Danny’s life were: Mr. Lee Cashman, Mr. Frank Sua, his brother, Michael Akiu, Mr. Goo and Leroy Brilhante.
The most important events in Danny’s life was having his sons, Bubba, Jacobe and Johnasen and his “pride and joy” grandchildren, Isaiah, Kealoha, Nohea and Makoa.
Danny enjoyed riding dirt bikes and Harley Davidson bikes and was known to be grumpy, giving and having a big heart. His favorite song was “I Did It My Way.”
Danny is survived by his parents, Henry and Charleen Akiu; former wife, Wanda Akiu; sons, Junior (Brittaney), Jacobe and Johnasen Akiu; hanai son, Kimo Akiu; four grandchildren, Isaiah, Kealohamaikalani, Nohealani and Makoa Akiu; brothers, Michael (Sheraine), Malcolm (Dee) and Scott Akiu; uncles, Dee and Everett Rosecrans.
Celebration of life and funeral service for Danny will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Windward United Church of Christ
(38 Kaneohe Bay Drive Kailua, HI 96734); visitation from 9:00 –10:30 a.m., with service to follow from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Lunch to follow at Kailua Beach Middle Park.
