My sincerest condolences to Suzanne and family and friends. I've surfed with Dean around O'ahu for many years. He was a champion for environmental causes and I joined his B.E.A.C.H. soon after it was formed. Wonderful, kind, smart, dedicated person. Mahalo for all you did Dean, you shall be missed. Peace and prayers to Dean's family. He will be terribly missed. Dean was a great soul and we loved him dearly during our school years for the Salinas High Class of 1980. I hung out with him for years at sunday school at the Lincoln Ave Presbyterian Church (Japanese American congregation) and through the years of middle school and high school. Our friend Curtis Wilson is wishing his deepst symoathy as well.
I first met Dean and Suzanne around 2004 when they presented at the Hawaii Science Teachers Association conference at Farrington High School. I was impressed with Suzanne's enthusiasm and Dean's local style calm. I was hoping that one day I could be in the same surf as Dean, to share the empathy, passion, and delight that he felt for the ocean. He did so much for the waters here, and will be missed. Dean used to give me rides to the beach before I had a drivers license. He always had a huge smile on his face and a positive attitude. I first him in 1979 and he’s one of the reasons I’m still a surfer to this day! Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends ❤️
