Celebrating the Life of Edward W.S. Ching
Edward W.S. Ching was born on October 13, 1925 in Wailuku, Maui to Ching Hing and Louisa Ah Fung Kong.
He died peacefully on April 20, 2016. He was the fourth of seven children and is survived by his siblings Donald Ching, Muriel DeLawder and Kam Brenno. His family ran the Iron Bridge Restaurant and Bakery in Happy Valley, Maui.
As a young boy, Ed was in charge of making noodles and also helped his dad make beer! He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1943 and served in WWII. After the war he became a draftsman and retired from Hawaii Structural Engineers in 1990.
He loved to swim, hike and run. Although quiet and unassuming, he was an accomplished chess player and weight lifting champion. He was married to Eleanor Y.N. Ching and they had one child, Jade Lynne Ching. He is survived by his daughter Jade, son-in-law David Nakashima, and their three children - Nikki Holck, Tyler Holck and DJ Nakashima.
He is best known as "Grampa" - a strong, brave and loving man. Grampa, we miss you . . . we love you.

A U.S. Veteran, he will be laid to rest at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.
