Edward Akio Tanaka's Obituary
Edward ( Boda ) Akio Tanaka Passed away on Wed, August 11 2021 at the age of 84 in Honolulu. He died 6 months into his hospice care at home in his Salt Lake apartment with his daughter ( Reanette) and his son-in-law ( Bernard) by his side after enjoying his last bowl of ice cream. Edward was born December 2 1936 in Honolulu and grew up in Kaka’ako and later moved to Waimanalo as a child.
He attended McKinley High School and would later joined the Army in 1955, where he did a military tour in Korea. After the military he worked at a termite company and would later start his own business called “Inter-Island Termite” Which he would retire from with more than 30 years in the business. He enjoyed traveling, boat cruises, and was a “Golden Arm” player at Las Vegas.
He has 5 children and a sixth child would come after his divorce. He is survived by son Edward (Vina) Tanaka of Molokai, son Harvey (Anna) Tanaka of Kaneohe, daughter Reanette (Bernard) Rogers of Maryland, daughter Terry (John) Tanaka of Hawaii island, son Kalen Tanaka of Kaneohe. Son Kaulana Chun of. Honolulu . He has 17 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren . His Parents were Rev. Robert Tadoa Tanaka & Rev Annie Tanaka. His surviving siblings are Robert Tanaka, Iwalani Gomard, Wilma Makilan, Louisa Nawatani, Kenneth Villabrille. His pre deceased siblings were Anna Plunket, Evelyn Kamakawiwaole, Momi Kwan, Douglas Tanaka.
Private services/ ashes will be held at “Hawaiian Memorial Veterans Cemetery”. We will have a recording of his ceremony Face Book, under “Edward Tanaka Sr”.
