Edwin "Proc" Ho Zane 's Obituary
Edwin Ho Zane passed away on July 16th at Hale Nani Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Makiki, Oahu. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 8, 1916 and grew up on Bingham Street in
McCully/Moiliili right at the freeway exit off Lunalilo freeway.
He resided in Aiea Heights for 62 years and found great joy in tending his 1 acre yard. He loved his poi; for many years up until his illness he had a standing order at Honolulu Poi Company for a 3 pound bag every Friday and ate it daily.
Firefighter Edwin Ho Zane (also known as “Proc” Zane) served his community for over 30 years in the Honolulu Fire Department, the majority of his career was spent at Station No. 10, Aiea Fire Station. He retired in 1975 as a Captain, and at age 97 was the oldest living HFD retiree at the time of his passing.
Known to family & friends as “Sonny or Uncle Sonny”; he is survived by his wife Soonie Lau Zane (of Moanalua), son’s Kevin Charles and Russell Wesley; sister Ethel May Wong, nieces and nephews, cousins, and aunt Moilee Hong.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 25 at Diamond Head Memorial Park (crypt area) at 10:30 a.m.
