Elizabeth Louis Lemke Dower's Obituary
ELIZABETH “BETTY” LEMKE DOWER, age 90, of Honolulu, Hawaii peacefully passed away in her Kaimuki childhood home, October 25, 2017. Born part-Hawaiian in Honolulu and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945. President of Dower Realty, Inc. and Dower School of Real Estate, she was a pillar in the real estate community. Contributing to many boards and organizations such as, Hawaiian Civic Club, Hawaii Association of Realtors, Honolulu Board of Realtors, Historic Hawaii Foundation, Rotary Club, Kaimuki Neighborhood Board…. and more. Betty also had an adventurous spirit. She traveled the world…having an adventure at every stop, staying in ashrams in India…hiking Machu Picchu at age 74…hiking Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan at age 79…and at age 80 rafting the Grand Canyon and jumping (with her grandchildren) out of an airplane (for the 2nd time)!
But what Betty is truly known for is that she embraced the spirit of aloha…extending warmth and affection in caring with no obligation in return…and always with an infectious smile.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Joseph Dower…true high school sweethearts. She had 9 children, 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous hanai.
In lieu of having a public memorial for Betty, the ‘Ohana is privately celebrating her wonderful life. If you wish to celebrate Betty’s life, jump in Kaimana Beach…wear blue (her favorite color)...make a toast to Betty…or whatever way you want to celebrate the most wonderful gift in the world…our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, relative and friend…okole maluna!
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intentions of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming … “Wow! What a ride!” -Hunter S. Thompson
