Elva Ke-o Matau’aina Polvado
Age 75 of Laie, Hawaii, she passed away peacefully in her Laie home on the evening of Monday November 14, 2016 while surround by family. Known as Ke-o, she was born in Kahuku, Hawaii December 13, 1940, and grew up in both Kahuku and Laie.
She lived a life dedicated to education beginning with her graduation from Kahuku High School in 1958, then earning a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree from the LDS Church College of Hawaii, culminating with a Masters of Education (M.A.ed) from BYU Provo, Utah.
After earning her Bachelor degree, she received a contract from the American Samoa Government to teach at Samoana High School in 1963, this began her 30+ years with the American Samoa education system. Her contribution included teaching high school, then opening her own preschool, serving as Vice Principal then as a Principal for numerous elementary schools with notable achievements for starting the Tafuna Junior High School (now known as Manulele/Tafuna Junior High School), and the development of the first curriculum for the new island wide Kindergarten program. Her distinct contribution to the American Samoa education system has endured with impact to countless Samoa students.
Married on July 17, 1965 to Colman Polvado (deceased), she is survived by her four children Lehua Polvado, Kuulei Jakubczak-Polvado, Nalia Polvado, Colman “C.M.” Polvado III, brother Pane “PJ” Meatoga Jr, step mother Gustava Meatoga, step brother Muelu Meatoga, step sister Sauiluma Solomona, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the LDS Laie Hawaii North Stake chapel located at 55-630 Naniloa Loop, Laie on December 3rd 2016. Family viewing at 8:30 am, Public viewing at 9 - 10:45 am; Services begin at 11:00 am with graveside burial at Laie Cemetery to follow.
