Emmaline Akau, age 73 died on Sunday, October 21, 2018 in her home at 45-516 Ualani Pl, Kaneohe.
Emmaline was born and raised in Waipahu. She is survived by her
husband, Solomon Akau Jr.; daughters, Fern Tuamoheloa of Las Vegas,
NV, Alicia Agapoa also of Las Vegas, NV.; predeceased by her eldest
daughter, Marsha-lynn Akau; grandchildren, Ariane Soares, Adam
Agapoa, Jasmine Agapoa, Nikui Tuamoheloa, Nehemiah Tuamoheloa,
Neveha Tuamoheloa and Ruben Soares; great grandchildren, Naomi Soares and Kaeli Soares; son in laws, Duke Tuamoheloa and predeceased by Junior Agapoa; Emmaline’s biological father, Durwoood E. Moore of Washington State; predeceased parents, Tiborcio Valdez and Rachel Valdez of Watsonville, CA.; siblings, predeceased, Beverly Sugitan and Alan Moore; other siblings, Rogelio Valdez, Jesus Valdez, Amelia Valdez, Venisa Valdez of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Gloria Valdez; predeceased sisters, Lucia Elliot and Helena Cabanlit; brother, Kenneth Valdez; nieces and nephews all of Watsonville, CA.
For those who knew Emmaline, she was always full of energy and spunk. Her presence in any group setting was never a dull moment. She made people laugh and smile wherever she went. In her earlier years, she took up bowling back in the Tiki Top days and was highly considered a good bowler for a lefty. Emmaline’s passion was cooking. She loved to cook. There was no doubt that with her imagination and a can opener she could concoct an
“ono” dish in a minute with no fuss. As a working mom, she held down several jobs at the Pali Golf course where she cooked and waited tables; she was also a dietitian aid at Pohai Nani. Soon thereafter, she retired to staying home and traveling. Her favorite food was woh wonton mein from Kin Wah. Aside from her favorite food, she adored her husband of 56 years,
Solomon Akau Jr. In her latter years she served and shared her time at New Hope Church in Kaneohe volunteering in the hospitality services. It was there that Emmaline had found her niche. She enjoyed not only serving the members at New Hope, but it was the fellowship with others which drew her closer to accepting Christ and faith in the Lord. Emmaline had met and made many dear friends in the course of her lifetime and discovered new ones as well.
The Akau family would like to thank the people of St Francis Hospice for the outstanding service and professionalism Emmaline was given.
Emmaline was the rock of Gibraltar, the pillar, strong by nature, the bridge that spanned and held family ties together from across the water by a golden thread. Her presence will be absent from our lives, but memories of her will always be in our hearts. May she lay down to rest now in peace and be apart of our ancestral foundation of those who have gone before her. Aloha a Hui Hou, until we meet again.
