Like many, my first memory of Mr. Libarios was twenty something years ago at Leeward Community College during the late 90’s. I wasn’t lucky enough to have him as my counselor back then, but just by observing his rapport with students, his ready smile, and warm greeting whether he knew you or not...you knew this man genuinely cared for all.
Fast forward about a decade later, Deacon Ernie came into our lives through our parish, Resurrection of the Lord in Waipio. Besides missing a full head of hair, you could not forget his smile, laugh, and warm personality. He had this way of making you feel like you were family, important, and most of all loved.
We were blessed to have Deacon Ernie as part of several significant events in our lives. He helped preside over our marriage, baptized our two younger children, officiated at my father in law’s funeral mass, and celebrated the Rite of Committal for my mother’s interment. I can honestly say that Deacon Ernie was instrumental in strengthening my Faith and brought me back to worship.
We can’t forget to mention the other moments when my husband Mark and I would see him eating breakfast after mass at Zippy’s or see him out and about running errands. He was just someone you were so happy to see wherever and whenever and wanted to stop and talk story with. Always with a joke and always ending with, “Eh, pray for me!”.
Thank You for being a part of our lives Deacon Ernie. It is heartwarming to hear of so many others that share their stories of how you touched and even changed their lives. Your light and love will shine in us always. Condolences to the Libarios Family and be comforted knowing Deacon is with the rest of the Angels now and with his loved ones.
Much Love,
Mark and Charmaine Mayo
