Ernesto Pascual Abiva's Obituary
On February 6, 2026, Ernesto Pascual Abiva was called to be with
the Lord.
Ernie was born in Claveria, Philippines, on February 22, 1948, and
was the eldest child of Matias and Florida Abiva. There, he grew up
with his siblings and attended Claveria Central School and Claveria
Institute. After high school, he studied architecture at National
University in Manila.
Ernie moved to Oahu, Hawaii, in 1973 to pursue his dreams in the
United States. There he met his future wife, Eleanor Calvan. Shortly
after marriage, Ernie and Ely welcomed their beloved children, Errol
and Erlene.
In 1979, they moved to Vallejo, California, where he continued
his career as a mechanical design engineer. His work led him to
contribute to building projects across the United States, spanning from
California to New York.
After dedicating himself to his career for more than 37 years, Ernie
welcomed and enjoyed retirement. He continued to pursue his love of
golf and spending time with his family and friends, often visiting his
loved ones back in Hawaii and the Philippines.
In addition to his intelligent, headstrong personality, Ernie had a
contagious grin and a laugh that was hard to ignore. Whether it was
through a joke or a funny facial expression, he always tried to bring a
smile to everyone’s face.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Erlene; sister, Fely; and
parents, Matias and Florida. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; son,
Errol; and siblings: Delia, Conchita, Carmen, Norma, Romeo, Andy,
Arlene and Gloria.
He will be remembered and cherished as a loving father, husband,
brother, uncle and friend to many.
