Evangeline Akulane Kauohanalei Duclayan's Obituary
Evangeline Akulane Kauohanalei Duclayan, also known as “Angie, Fatty, Skinny” of Ewa Beach died May 22, 2019 at The Queen’s Medical Center-West ‘Oahu, at the age of 75.
Evangeline was born on January 26, 1944 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was the daughter of Vincent Maka’ula II and Victoria Kaua’ohanalei (Pua’a) Apolo. She was also the wife of the late Leon Sanchez Duclayan and sister of Vance Maka’ula III Apolo.
Evangeline retired after 38 years as a dedicated and hard-working Adult Staff Supervisor for Kalihi Kai Elementary School. Evangeline enjoyed her time there nurturing and helping many students of various ages as well as socializing with supportive friends and faculty members. She also worked at Surgicare Hawaii for 10 years. Evangeline is survived by one son, Larry (Clarissa) Duclayan of Ewa Beach and five daughters, Laura-Mae Duclayan, Lisa Ann (Mariano Vergado Jr.) Duclayan of Pearl City, Lei-Ann (Fred Otsuka) Duclayan of Honolulu, Larissa (A. Robert) Ganiron of Waipahu, and Laurena (Jeffrey) Burigsay of Waipahu; 12 Grandchildren: Sean (Misty) Duclayan, Chace Duclayan, Anja Duclayan, Chrystyn-Leigh (Christopher) Manlapit, Tiana Otsuka-Duclayan, Brandy Vergado-Duclayan, Mariano “Ikaika” Vergado-Duclayan, Ariq Vergado-Duclayan, Dakota Ganiron, Damien Ganiron, Miranda Burigsay, and Zaylee Ann Vergado-Duclayan; 8 Great-Grandchildren: Alexis, Adrian and Ashton Duclayan, Jayna, Ariya and Shyla Cordero, Chyston Luke Manlapit, and Jeremiah Duclayan-Haku’ole. Celebration of life and wake service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Valley of the Temples Mortuary-Makai Chapel (47-200 Kahekili Highway); visitation from 6:00-8:30 p.m., with services to begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held the following day, Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church in Ewa Beach (91-1298 Renton Road); visitation and Blessing will be at 9:30 a.m., with a funeral Mass to begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow 1:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
