Faamamata Pouli Magalei 's Obituary
Fa’amata Pouli Magalei, 83, of Hau’ula passed away on August 17, 2013 surrounded by his family.
Fa’amamata was born on April 21, 1930 in Faleniu, Samoa to Pouli and Fa’aeseina Magalei. He married his eternal companion and the love of his life Alofagia Tialino on October 20, 1962 and was sealed for time and all eternity in the Laie, Hawaii Temple on October 20, 1976. He and his family moved to Hawaii in 1970 where he worked part time (off and on) at Kaya’s Store – a small Mom & Pop Store in Punalu’u. He labored most of his years at Zions Security, a property management company until his retirement in 2004. Dad was a hard worker, even up to his final days.
Dad was kind, quiet and gentle with the gift of serving. He taught us through actions and example - never by lecture or long speeches. He loved a good football game and was a Kahuku Red Raider for Life. He had an amazing love for his family and neighbors. He showed us what a father should be by the way he treated us. Papa loves the Lord and taught us by example what a disciple should be. He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS church; including more than 20 years as ward building representative.
Fa’amamata is survived by his children: sons, Talio (Jeanette Miller), Tagi’ilima “Lima” (Lila Matagi) and Sakalia (Domina Annastas) and daughters Fulisia Maiwiriwiri (Ifereimi Sowani) and Agalelei Elkington (John Arthur Elkington III). Dad’s pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren. Grandsons: Mosese Maiwiriwiri (LDS Mission - Las Vegas, NV), Seth Magalei (LDS Mission – Albuquerque, NM), Ephraim Maiwiriwiri (LDS Mission – Roseville, CA), Ethan Magalei, Micah Matagi Magalei, Noah Matagi Magalei, Ezra Magalei, Logan Matagi, Ezias Matagi-Magalei, John Arthur “Wani” Elkington, Fa’amamata Elkington, Tu’ufuli Matagi, Malosi Matagi, Sasha Matagi. Granddaughters: Ayesha Matagi Magalei, Brooke Matagi Magalei, Nzingha Lawson, Jeanette Maiwiriwiri, Penina Maiwiriwiri and Paige Magalei
A celebration of his life will be held Monday, August 26 at 11:30 a.m. at the Laie Hawaii Stake Center, 55-415 Iosepa Street, Laie with a viewing prior to the services from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Laie Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
