Flaviana Rellin Flores' Obituary
Celebrating the life of Flaviana “Faye” Rellin Flores
Born on February 21, 1935 in Kilauea, Kauai. Her parents, Enrica and Fabian Rellin. She was the 9th child of 9 children. She attended Kalakaua Intermediate. And earned her high school diploma from Waipahu High School in 1953. It was years after graduation, that she moved to San Francisco, CA where she continued her Federal Government career at Fort Mason. While in San Francisco, she met the love of her life, Mr. Kenneth A. Flores. On September 2, 1960 they were married. While in San Francisco, they had two children, Raina and Alexander. They moved back to Oahu to have their last child, Rhonda. Back on Oahu, she was a loyal, dedicated and hardworking United States Federal Government civilian personnel, for the Department of the Army. Her eclectic abilities made it possible for her to work in different career fields, and organizations. She worked in the Arts/Recreation Services, and Education Services. In 1997, while working as a Computer Assistant for the 30th Signal Battalion, at Fort Shafter, she decided to retire, so that she can help raise her first grandchild, Erika. With that decision, she clocked 35 years of dedicated civilian service. Throughout her career, she met many people and gained many friends from all over the world. Some for a season, many for a lifetime. She was grateful and proud to be of service to all she came in contact with. Faye lived on Kaua’i, in Nanakuli, San Francisco, Aiea, Kaneohe and Pearl City. Faye was a strong, family oriented lady. She made it a priority to attend any school event or functions that her children was in. Family was everything for her, although she was married and lived in Pearl City, every weekend she’d pack up her 3 children, and drive down to the westside of Oahu to visit her parents. Most times it was on both days...Saturdays, to pick up her mom and dad to take them to their doctor visits in town, and Sundays, to take them to church at St. Ritas Church in Nanakuli, then home to help her mom clean house. Faye enjoyed family gatherings, and everyone loved Aunty Faye’s cooking...From the delicious fried noodles, that was perfect with just the right amount of that ‘horse label’ oyster sauce...had to be that ‘horse label’, or it wouldn’t be the same...To her cottage cheese dessert, that she called ‘Yummy Salad’ that everyone loved! It didn’t matter what she cooked up, it always turned out delicious! She used to always say, when you make something, or you do something, do it with love from your heart, from your whole heart, and it will always come out good. Faye had a bunch of one liner sayings that meant a lot to people at different stages in their life. “Listen to your Body” was one of them. And “Drink plenty of water”, was another. “God be with you”...I’m positive there are many other sayings that she had said to people that left a lasting impression, because it was just what they needed to hear. Did Faye say something to you that left a lasting impression? Sometime between 1995 and 1997, Faye was diagnosed with breast cancer, with GOD, she fought it like a champ, with chemotherapy and radiation treatments, lost her hair at one point, she said it was much cooler without the hair, trying to be funny, but that was her trying to be strong for her family. She went into remission. Then the cancer came upon her again, in 2013, on her other breast, this time she had a mastectomy. She fought through the chemo and radiation, with GOD by her side, she overcame and went in remission again. Faye was a faithful member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church ever since she moved and made Pearl City her home. But for a little while, while she and Kenneth lived in Kahalu’u, Kaneohe, they enjoyed spending time at the Kupuna Program at the Key Project in Kaneohe. Seniors would meet there to enjoy crafting, lunch, fellowship and outings together. They had some fun times and met many new friends. They would go to the movies at the Ko’olau Consolidated Theater. Paying the senior price was a ‘hoot’ for them. Of course, trips to Las Vegas - both Kenneth and Faye loved going there! Three or four times a year, both would go. Until Kenneth passed away in 2003 and Faye moved back to Pearl City. Rhonda then took over in taking her to Las Vegas to get her Keno and slot machine FIX! Faye loved to travel. She and Kenneth traveled to Japan, California, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada. When Kenneth passed away, and she got older, it was harder for her to travel, but being the good, strong trooper that she was, she still found the strength to take multiple trips to Nevada (Las Vegas of course!), a family trip to Disneyland and Universal Studios, California, another family trip, this time a cruise to Alaska, and also the Hawaiian Island cruise. There were a few trips to Colorado. Very long, ‘plane rides’, but she did it! She did 3 long trips. The last, the hardest trip she had to endure, was in May 2018, when Erika graduated from the Air Force Academy as a 2nd Lieutenant. That was a very proud moment for her! The trip was one of her “goal trips”. It was an important, “must attend” trip. And she made it! It was the hardest trip she had to endure, but with GOD by her side, she did it! She was extremely happy. Faye was also a member of the United Visayan Club (UVC) in Waipahu, to keep in touch with her Filipino culture. If you asked her what was the happiest moments in her life? She’d answer, my marriage, the births of my 3 children, and the births of my first granddaughter, Erika, grandson Noah, and my youngest grandbaby girl Elaina. Her life was full. Blessed throughout by GOD. Watched throughout by her ANGELS. Loved intently by her husband, children and family. Flaviana was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Flores. She came from a family of 9 siblings. Six brothers and 3 sisters. Her brothers: Saturnino, Filomeno, Raymondo, Jobencio, Candelerio and sisters Arsenia and Rosalia have all preceded her into Heaven. She is survived by her only living brother, Mariano Rellin and his wife Marilyn Rellin. Flaviana is survived by children: daughters Raina (and Ken) Chambers, Rhonda Flores and son Alexander “Alika” K. Flores, and by three grandchildren: Erika, Chambers, Elaina Chambers and Noah Rohr Flores. Flaviana, you will be missed forever, loved always and in our hearts for eternity. GOD BE WITH YOU.
