Florence Luella Burgoyne's Obituary
Florence Luella “Lu” Burgoyne, a longtime resident over 50 years of Kailua, O’ahu passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Avalon Care Center in Honolulu. She was 90 years old. She was the only child born to William Lewis Duff and Ella Johnson on April 13, 1926.
After graduation from Darlington High School, she attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison earning a bachelor’s degree in English. Luella enjoyed acting in the Madison Theater Guild. She worked as a flight attendant for TWA before marrying the love of her life, James Mason Burgoyne on August 27, 1955.
Luella then became a homemaker living in Wisconsin and Illinois. After adopting their two children, Jim and Lu moved to O’ahu, Hawaii in 1965 making their home in Kailua.
She was a member of Christ Church Uniting in Kailua. Luella had so many longtime neighbors and friends through the years in Hawaii.
She was involved with the Outdoor Circle Lanikai/Kailua and with Jim, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels delivering food for the elderly and those needing assistance. She enjoyed gardening, loved plants, dogs, animals, cooking, reading, learning new things, truly loved Hawaii, enjoyed collecting and making arts and crafts, and traveling.
The important events in her life were her marriage to Jim and the adoption of two children, Holly Louise and Kevin Scott. Luella was predeceased by her husband Jim and son Kevin. She is survived by her daughter Holly of San Francisco, CA, her daughter-in-law Tammy Burgoyne and three grandchildren: Brett, McKenna and Kade Burgoyne of Poulsbo, Washington.
