Franklin Augustiro, Sr.'s Obituary
Franklin Augustiro Sr., of Kaunakakai, Molokai, Hawaii passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at his residence. He was 89 years old. He was the third of 13 children born to Marcos Augustiro and Sophia Mindoro on July 12, 1926.
He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 during World War II and attained the rank of Technician Corporal/T-5 and received the following medals: Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
In his lifetime, he held several jobs which were: Maui Sugar Mill as an electrician in 1947, Libby/Dole Pineapple as a laborer in 1950 when he moved to Molokai, Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc. as a case worker, Molokai Ranch Ltd. as a laborer, Hawaiian Research as a laborer and lastly Monsanto Molokai as a lead crew laborer where he eventually retired.
He lived in Kaunakakai, Molokai, Hawaii for most of his life and married Francisca Juario on August 9, 1947 in Pu‘unene, Maui, Hawaii.
He was a member of St. Damien Catholic Church (formerly St. Sofia Catholic Church) located at 115 Ala Malama Avenue, Kaunakakai, Molokai, Hawaii 96748.
Franklin Sr. enjoyed listening to Hawaiian music, camping, fishing, and hunting. He was involved with the Filipino Club and the Veterans Center.
The important events that took place in his life were marrying his wife, having his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He truly cherished time spent with family, ALL five generations of them.
Franklin is survived by his wife, Francisca “Sally” Augustiro; children, Patrick (Carmen) Augustiro Sr., Franklin (Charmaine) Augustiro Jr., Zaldeen “Leihua” (Jonathan) Reis; son-in-law, Edwin Greenleaf, Sr.; siblings, Victoria “Vicky” Augustiro Eye, Nancy Rediros Luat, Patricia “Tisa” Rediros Garcia, and Nicasio Rediros, Sr.; 12 grandchildren, Patrick (Pi‘i) Augustiro Jr., Colette Dawn (Chiemi) Augustiro, Cindy Ledesma, Hayleymay (Benny) Greenleaf, Edwina (Johnathan) Greenleaf, Edwin (April) Greenleaf Jr., Travis (Tina) Greenleaf Jr., Kelsey Augustiro, Franklin (Kalehua) Augustiro III, Taylor-Ann Reis, Hilina‘i Reis, and Jonathan Reis (Ka‘ikoa); 29 great-grandchildren, Nadia Augustiro, Nicolette-Paige Augustiro, Kelcyn Balbas, Diesel Augustiro,Whitney Apo, Karly Apo, Caylee Ledesma, Camille-Paige Ledesma, Chaney Deluna-Greenleaf, Daven Lindo, Chae’nel Deluna, Alaysha Duvauchelle-Greenleaf, Waianuhea Kauwenaole, Johnathan Kauwenaole, Charleston Uahinui (Kalapana), Edwin Greenleaf III (Ekolu), Kayani Greenleaf, Travis Greenleaf Jr. (Kahekili), Josiah Greenleaf, Ashton Greenleaf, Heath Lopez, Shania Ann Greenleaf, Brittney Anglin, Brandee Anglin, Franklin Augustiro IV (Kawena),
Chevy Augustiro, Dion Augustiro (Hiwa), Aiden Augustiro (Buzzy), and Evie Augustiro; eight great-great-grandchildren, Ky’chae Kalawe-Deluna, Kallie Kalawe-Deluna, Hayden Kapuni, Ku‘enalani Kapuni, Kau‘iahina Kapuni, Bentley-Kole Anglin, Ethan Porlas (Kaikulu) and
Peyton Suenishi.
Franklin Sr. was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Ann Greenleaf; siblings, Flora Rapis Baula, Lorencio “Larry” Rapis, Momi Augustiro, Philamon Augustiro, Anatalia “Duling” Augustiro Obatay, Faustino “Sonny” Rediros, Henry Rediros, and Domingo “Mingoy” Rediros.
A celebration of life service for Franklin Sr. will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Damien Catholic Church (located at 115 Ala Malama Avenue, Kaunakakai, Molokai, Hawaii 96748); visitation to his family from 8:45 – 9:45 a.m., eulogy to begin at 9:45 a.m., with Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m.
Franklin will be remembered as a great Dad, strong, hardworking, a “jokester,” all around good guy who was known to say, “You Falla” or “Oboy.” He truly had too many special friends to mention and he will surely be missed.
