To Lynette, Gabriel, Lyanne, Gavin and Freddie,
Here is how I like to remember my Uncle Boy, your Father. He was unique in his own way, always had a bit of a chuckle when he spoke, spoke his mind of course, but was always generous and thoughtful.
I recall of times when I came home to Hawaii for a visit from Canada. He always brought over enough Chinese food to feed an army. He made sure that all the kids were called to come over and get together for a warm welcome back home. I can say that his family meant everything in the world to him.
I also recall of times when we were kids being picked up to tag along for the drive-in movie. The Waialae Drive-In to be specific. I think they charged by the car. What a special treat that was for Nate and me. I can’t remember the title of the movies we saw, but I do remember seeing them in our pyjamas.
I also do not recall ever seeing him wearing a shirt. If he did, it must have been for a very special occasion. Lucky he lived in Hawaii. Canada would not have been too kind to anyone bare backed, especially in the winter. The other funny thing was, although he was a carpenter he could have passed for a plumber. He never seemed to care if his pants were hanging half way down.
Last year I went back home for a visit and was fortunate enough to have seen him. It was purely accidental when Eleanor and I bumped into him at the food show held at the NBC. We sat for a short chat to catch up on this and that. In the conversation he mentioned how much he liked to ride the bus. I would have to agree with his way of thinking since it is the most practical way of transportation and a great way to see things at a much slower pace. We carried on with the food tasting and said our farewells never thinking it would be our last. Although our visit was only for a brief time, it will always be fondly remembered.
I am very sad that I will not able to be there during your time of lose but I want you to know that I will be thinking of you. I hope that some of these memories that I have of him will help you to know how much he meant to me. I will cherish them dearly and hold them close to my heart.
Very sincerely,
