Gabriela Mariano Bueno's Obituary
Celebrating the life of Gabriela “Ella” Mariano Bueno, 69, of Waipahu, Hawaii, who passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015 in Rome, Italy.
She was born on April 11, 1946 in Barangay #8, San Antonio, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was the youngest of two children born to Manuel Rivera Mariano and Manuela Bumanglag Balon.
She attended Dole Middle School, Farrington High School and the College of Commerce, where she earned her secretarial certificate in 1967.
She married Zacarias “Freddie” Collado Bueno on February 20, 1965 at St. Paul’s Church in Honolulu. After graduation, she was asked by her husband to stay home and be a housewife. She eventually was home to raise her four children, Diana, Dwayne, Darlene and Dwight. They lived in Kalihi and Waipahu.
Along the way, she was a sub-agent for Phil-American Travel Agency and was self-employed; selling merchandise at the Aloha Flea Market, to help send her children through school.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal and Philippine Independent Church and the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (P.I.), an Advisor for Namnama Ti Abagatan Ti Carayan USA and Corresponding Secretary of The United Laoaguenos of Hawaii. She was also crowned as the Ms. Centennial Hawaii Filipina 2006, a fundraising project of the Philippine Cultural Foundation of Hawaii.
She was a loving, giving, faithful, motherly and happy woman who enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing Tetrisphere on the Nintendo 64 game console. Very important events in her life were the birth of her two grandchildren: Royce Daniel and Danica Reigne Ilaga.
Ella is survived by her loving husband, Zacarias "Freddie" Collado Bueno; children, Diana Bueno, Dwayne Bueno, Darlene (Roy) Ilaga, Dwight (Cindy) Bueno; two grandchildren, Royce Daniel Bueno Ilaga and Danica Reigne Bueno Ilaga; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, uncle, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation to her evening wake service will be from 5:30-9:00 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2015 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; eulogy and family service to begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a wake service at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation to her funeral service will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church; Mass to begin at 11:15 a.m., with burial service to follow 1:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
