George Chung Ho Shon's Obituary
George C.H. Shon, 80, of Mililani, Hawaii passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at his residence. He was the youngest of six children born to Choong Bo and Cho Sun Shon on February 22, 1935 in Hakalau, North Hilo, Hawaii to. He was a retired teacher at James B. Castle High School and a United States Army Veteran.
George attended Hilo Union Elementary, Hilo Intermediate, Hilo High School then furthered his education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and received a Bachelor’s degree in education. After graduation he began his career as a business teacher at James B. Castle High School where he served 30 years and retired in 1990.
He was involved in golfing, babysitting his grandchildren, fishing and going to Las Vegas. He lived in Hakalau, Honolulu, Kailua, and lastly made his home in Mililani. He was married to Katy Hirae on September 14, 1957 in Honolulu. He was a member of both St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Kailua and Hope Chapel. He was involved with Castle High School’s Golf Club and Musgo Golf Club.
He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 where he attained the rank of Private First Class. As a child one of the most significant events in his life was watching the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he was confused and scared at that time in his life. Other events in his life that were truly important was the birth of his eight children and 18 grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gambling. His favorite songs were 500 Miles, Take Me home Country Road.
He is survived wife, Katy Shon; sons, Garret Shon, Geoffrey (Jennifer) Shon, Gregory Shon, Gifford (Lynne) Shon, Gerard Shon, Galen (Christy) Shon, and Gordon (Terri) Shon; daughter, Kimberly (Russell) Hu; sisters, Hannah Lee and Eva Shon;18 grandchildren
Visitation 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary Chapel; service to begin at 6:00 p.m.
