Gerald R. Stothers' Obituary
Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary and Diamond Head Mortuary are saddened to announce the passing of Gerald Stothers. We are honored to be assisting the Stothers Family during this difficult time.
Gerald Robert Stothers passed away at Castle Hospital on October 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old. Gerry, as he was known to all, was born on December 9, 1935, in San Francisco, California. As a military “brat”, his stepdad had several different assignments - Corpus Christie, Texas; Guam; Millington, Tennessee; and his last order was at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1954. He was active in sports, specifically track and football. Gerry attended Farrington High School for his senior year, played football and ran track. He graduated in 1955 and attended the University of Hawaii on an athletic scholarship. He was part of the 1955 Hawaii football team that recorded one of the biggest upsets in school history with a 6-0 win at Nebraska on Sept. 17, 1955, with only 25 players. The ‘team’ was inducted into the UH Sports Circle of Honor in 2006.
He worked at Hawaiian Pine as a summer hire, followed by Hawaiian Dredging & Construction from 1957-1997 starting as a Roustabout and finishing as a Carpenter Foreman. Using his many years of experience in the construction industry, he finished his career with the Department of Defense as an Engineering Technician and retired in September 2015 at the ‘young’ age of 80. Gerry is survived by his wife; Almarie Stothers, his children; Jerry Stothers (Sienna), Malia Ramiro (Sam), Lindsey Stothers (Robyn), Kanoe Pagdilao (Gary); brother/sisters; Penny Gibson, Joy King, Keith Stothers, Cheryl Manos; grandchildren; Kaua, Ho’ola, Jaye, Chase, Kyan, Peyton, Jordan, Kalei, Ihilani, Kawai, Daisy; greatgrandchildren; Kyler, Tatum, Kaden, Teagan, Monae, Thalia
