Geraldine "Gerry" K. Akina's Obituary
Geraldine Paukamakanikamanaoolokookalani Kaluakini Akina was born in Lahaina, Maui June 30, 1917.
Daughter of William Kauhaao Kaluakini and Abigail P. Hose. She had eight brothers and sisters. Reared on Maui in Lahaina and Hana, she went to school on Oahu and attended St. Andrew's Priory where she graduated with honors in 1935.
After graduation she danced hula professionally with Mrs. Akeo’s hula group and was a secretary in Honolulu where she met her future husband Arthur Atai Akina Jr. They were married on March 2, 1940, at St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Kapaau, North Kohala, Hawaii with Archdeacon James Walker officiating.
Gerry was a homemaker raising three children mainly on Oahu, living abroad in Saudi Arabia and Saipan as Arthur's career demanded.
Retiring in Kailua, Oahu, Gerry and Arthur enjoyed golfing and were prominent members at Mid-Pac Country Club both serving as president of their respective divisions.
Gerry is survived by her three children, Arthur Atai (Verna) Akina III, Ardine Alahinano (Marshall) Ingraham and Armand (Francoise) Alakai Akina; three grandchildren, LynAnne Akina, Alan (Alyson) Alakai Akina and Vicen Aipohaku Akina; two great grandchildren; ChassyAnn Inouye and Ariya Aikukahele Akina.
Celebration of Life Service for Gerry will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Valley of the Temples Chapel (located at, 47-200 Kahekili Highway Kaneohe, Hawaii 96744); visitation from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. with service to begin at 11:30 a.m.; inurnment to follow 12:30 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park
In Lieu of monetary donations in Gerry’s memory, you may send them to Bristol Hospice or Castle Medical Center.
