Gladys Mearl Lopes' Obituary
Gladys Mearl Chang Lopes, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Pearl City on September 29,2019. She was born in Honolulu, Oahu to Abner and Clara Chang.
She is survived by son, Roger (Pamela) Lopes James, (Kawaihae, HI); daughters, Mearl “Vernie” Cooper, Waikiloa, HI, Darlene “Dee”(Charlie) Stansell of Silverdale, WA, Janice Akau (Dan Kaawa) of Nanakuli, HI, Masie (Joe) Tetreault, of Bremerton, WA, Naomi Chang Damon of Kona ,and sister Jeannette Brenner.
She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph Ayala Lopes, daughter, Jennifer G. Lopes Hamer, brothers, Walter T. Chang, Arthur Chang, and Wayne Chang. Sisters, Dorothy Doyle, Aileen Ferreira and Mildred Brickson, grandson, Reynolds Akau, and great-grandson, Iokepa James-Fainga.
She has 17 grandchildren, 37 Great-grand children, 7 Great-Great children, along with many nieces & nephews
Graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1941. Taught at Pearl City Elementary School with the Kupuna Program. She Retired from Oahu Country Club In 1985.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary at Valley of the Temples. Visitation to begin at 10:00 a.m.; Service to start at 10:45 a.m.; Burial at 1:00 p.m. at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.
