Gregory Leigh Kanoa 's Obituary
KANEOHE-Gregory “Finikie” Leigh Kanoa, 56, after a long bout with pneumonia, passed away on August 13, 2013 at home with his family.
“Finikie” was born September 5, 1956 to proud parents Thomas “Sonny” Kanoa and Evelyn Kanoa in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He grew up in Honolulu’s “Tin Can Alley” and later in Kailua, with brothers, Reginald “Reggie” Roller, Raymond “Boy” Roller, Anthony “Tony” Kanoa, Raymond “Babez” Roller and sisters, Eldora Figueroa and Sharon Mandeville.
He loved the water and in his youth enjoyed surfing at Kewalo Basin and other Oahu surf sites. He also skateboarded with friends and was quite skilled. He graduated McKinley High School in 1974.
Soon after graduation he began working as a roofer for Peerless Roofing Company until August 1977.
Due to a car accident, from which he never fully physically recovered, he remained in the care of his family. He loved being outside and helped care for the yard. He was a fan of crossword puzzles and also loved partying with family and friends. He especially loved his many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by siblings Reggie Roller, Tony Kanoa, Eldora Figueroa and Sharon Mandeville, their spouses and children.
