Henry Avilla's Obituary
The Avilla Family is sad to announce the death of Henry Avilla of Honolulu, Hawaii, who passed away at home February 6th, 2023. Henry was 93 years old and died of natural causes. His family was there until his death taking care of him. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Miyoko Arashiro Avilla.
Henry, fondly known as Hank, was born to Fructuso Vellin and Emilia Bolotano Avilla, on July 9th, 1929, in Kapaa, Kauai. He was the youngest of five siblings. Henry was predeceased by his parents, Fructuso and Emilia and his five siblings. He is survived by his five children; Joanne (Bert), Marianne, Dianne (Cheok), Ransom (Carol), and Denise (Bob) and grandchildren; Ryan (Mao), Riley, Cody, Jamie, and Vivienne. He has one great-grandchild, Evan. Henry was a wonderful husband, great father, and a kind man. He always took care of his family.
Henry was a talented athlete in high school who loved playing basketball and volleyball at Mid-Pacific Institute in Manoa. In 2018, MPI inducted Henry, the class of 1947, to the MPI’s M Club Athletic Hall of Fame. After high school, Henry went on to serve in the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. There he met his future wife Miyoko and had five children. Henry served overseas in Japan, Germany, South Korea, and in Hawaii. He loved to travel and took his family visit throughout Europe and Egypt. It was during this time he took a U.S. contract job and worked in Isfahan and Tehran, Iran. He remained there until the revolution, before returning back to his government job. Henry is a veteran and later worked for the U.S. Army as civilian, retiring with forty years of government service.
On Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11 am, the Avilla family will host a funeral service at the Diamond Head Mortuary followed by a private ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific where his ashes will be interned and united with his loving wife Miyoko.
