HENRY C.H. CHU
Age 89, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away February 21, 2013 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Born July 25, 1923 in Honolulu, Hawaii. A Foreman with Pearl Harbor; organizations Mr. Chu was a Past President of Lung Kong Kung Shaw, Kong Chow Benevolent Association and Chung Wah Chung Kung Hui; Chairman of Lung Kong Physical Culture Club; director/member of Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Chinatown Merchants Association, United Chinese society, United Church of Christ- Judd Street, See Yup Beneveloent Society, Yee YeeTong Society, American Legion-Kau- Tom Post #11, Chee Kung Tong Society and Neighborhood Security Watch; Coordinator of Hanana Place; Awards, Citation of Meritorious actions from Rear Admiral William H. Fulong, Commandant, Pearl Harbor Navy, Yard, and Albert Blatt, Shop Master of Shop 70. He was assigned to the cruiser USS Raleigh which was torpedoed by Japanese Aircraft. He and other workers were desperately trying to keep the ship afloat by pumping the water out from the damaged areas so that temporary repairs could be made. - December 7, 1941. Recognized by the State Senate and House of Representatives in 1983. Honored as Hawaii Chinese Living Treasure by the Chinese Youths of Hawaii in 1994 for his contributions to the martial arts and lion dancing. Also recognized as Outstanding Senior Citizen in 2002 by Mayor Jeremy Harris. Lifetime Achievement award by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce - 2010. He is survived by wife, Corinne Wun Yapp Ching Chu; children, Wendall Chung Kwong Chu, Mavis (Rodney) Sui Quon Chu Chong, Donna Sui Ling Chu and Kent (Natalie Liu) Chung Kin Chu; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Liane) Jun Wai Chong, Jonathan (Connie) Jun Hwa Chong, Jared Jun Leong Chong, Kyle C.M. Chu (Samantha), Wayden C .W. Chu and Kory C.H.N Chu, Kristen Sau Hung Chong, Wendianne Y.L. Chu, Lauren L.H. Chu and Kelsie P.P.L. Chuck; 3 great-grandchildren, Leah E. T.H. Chong, Marlee M.H. Chong and Jett R.W.L. Chong; sister, Marion (Harold) Chu Okawa; brothers, Ernest C.Y. Chu and William (Beryl) C.W. Chu.
Visitation: 9:30-11:30a.m., Saturday March 16, 2013 at United Church of Christ-Judd St.; service 11:30a.m.; burial 10:00a.m., Monday March 18, 2013 at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery; no flowers.
