Ignacia "Lucy" Semetara Garcia's Obituary
Ignacia “Lucy” Semetara Garcia, 98, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. She was the third of nine children born on July 31, 1917 to Simeon Semetara and Petronela Panoy in Olaa, Puna, Hawai’i.
Her education stemmed from schools on the Big Island. After graduation, she began her career as a dressmaker.
Lucy retired as a garment steam presser, after serving for 25 - 30 years. After retirement, she was involved in volunteer work for the elderly.
She married Augustine Fortich Garcia in the Philippines and eventually made their home in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Lucy practiced her faith as a Catholic and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Kalihi.
She was a good cook. She also enjoyed playing the ukulele and singing; her favorite sone was, "Bali High."
Lucy is survived by her son, Pablo S. (Maria) Garcia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Celebration of life service for Lucy will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Valley of the Temples Chapel (located at 47-200 Kahekili Highway Kaneohe, Hawaii 96744); visitation from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.; service to begin at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow 1:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
