Ignacio Rivera Vea's Obituary
Ignacio Rivera Vea, of Honolulu, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on February 14, 2012. He was born February 2, 1912 in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines and immigrated to Hawaii as a young man, initially working in the sugar plantations in Maui and Oahu, and later in the Maintenance Department at Public Works Center, Pearl Harbor where he was employed for many years. He had a strong work ethic (working three jobs at one point to support the family). A devoted family man, he took great pride in taking care of his home and family. We will all miss him very much. He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Vea, sons, Jerry and Michael Vea, daughters, Carolyn (Wade) Enos and Lorraine (Jerald) Nakasone, four grandchildren, Solomon and Erin Enos, and Jonathan and Natalie Nakasone, one great-grandson, Daniel Maruyama, and a sister, Justa Galapon in the Philippines. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kaiser physicians Sze-Mei Chung, M.D., and Bryan Tanabe, M.D., and the caregivers at Hospice Hawaii for the exceptional care provided to Dad in his final days. Memorial service Friday, March 16, 2012 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Public viewing at 10:00 am followed by 11:00 am memorial service, and private burial 1:00 pm at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
