Ilena Miguel Andres' Obituary
Ilena Miguel Andres, 85, of Waipahu, Hawaii passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Pali Momi Medical Center in Aiea. She was the fifth of nine children born to Francisco Miguel and Petra Baquiran on March 1, 1930 in Paukaa, South Hilo, Hawaii. She was a retired housekeeper with the Ala Moana Hotel.
She attended school in the Philippines. She retired after many years of employment with the Ala Moana Hotel. She lived on the islands of Oahu, and Kauai. She also resided in Oceanside, California for a time.
Ilena was married to Esmenio Andres Sr. They were married on December 22, 1952.
She was a proud single mother who brought her seven children to Hawaii to provide and have a better life for them. She was an independent, strong, friendly, courageous, loving woman who enjoyed family celebrations, sewing, working on word find puzzles, and going out to open markets to purchase fresh vegetables and other items that are sold by various vendors.
She is survived by sons, Reynie Andres, Francisco “Frank” Andres, Esmenio Andres Jr., and Hernando Andres; daughters, Edna Barbrie and Elsa Andres-Paguirigan; brother, Gobersido Miguel; sisters, Tomasa Ajolo, Rosalia Gaoiran and Florence Plan; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; service to begin at 6:30 p.m. Additional service Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; visitation from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Service to begin at 11:30 a.m., with a burial to follow 2:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
